CREDITS AT SCHOOL PORTA D'ORIENTE

School Porta d'Oriente students must make arrangements for transfer credit with their home institution. All School Porta d'Oriente programs are offered at recognized universities and there is usually no difficulty in arranging transfer credit to U.S. schools. In order to assure credit transfer, students should obtain written approval from their academic advisor, department chair and/or study abroad advisor that the courses selected will be awarded transfer credit. The amount of credit awarded is generally calculated on the total contact hours. Recommended credits in our current catalog are based on 15 classroom hours per semester credit. A semester program normally entails 12 to 16 semester credits, and a summer program normally entails 5 to 6 semester credits. The School Porta d'Oriente advisors can assist you with this process.

It is the students’ responsibility to keep all books, syllabi, exams, papers, etc. so that if need be, they can show their university administrators the work completed while abroad. Even if credits were approved prior to departure, it is still important to hold on to these documents in case the amount of credit is ever in question. Detailed course descriptions are available from School Porta d'Oriente for all programs to help evaluate transfer credit.

School Porta d'Oriente is not responsible for the acceptance of transfer credit after the program is completed. Prior approval must be obtained from your academic advisor before the program begins. After completing your program abroad, you will receive an official transcript from the foreign university. Students not currently enrolled in a U.S. college or university who cannot obtain advance approval for credit transfer are advised to have their official transcripts sent to their home address after the program for their own records. Credit for internship activities and independent study projects must be negotiated on an individual basis by the student with his/her home institution.
