SOCRATES/COMENIUS PROGRAMS FOR FOREIGN TEACHERS

This course can be financed by the
"Socrates/Comenius/Grundtvig III" program of the European Community.
 In particular "COMENIUS
2 (Training of School Education Staff) focuses on the first phase of
education, from pre-school and primary to secondary school, and it is
addressed to all members of the education community in the broad sense – pupils,
teachers, other education staff, but also local authorities, parents'
associations, non-government organisations ..."
Individual Training Grants
Grants for Initial Teacher Training
These grants aim to encourage student teachers to gain an understanding
of the European dimension to teaching and learning, via a period of supervised
study and, where possible, practical training in another participating
country. This mobility activity can only be realised in the context of
a Comenius 2 project related to initial teacher training, and accordingly
applicants are selected by their home institution participating in such
a project.
The mobility period of 1 to 10 weeks will be an integral part of the students'
overall training and therefore properly certified and recognised. It will
usually involve visiting schools in the host country, spending an extended
period observing and/or working as an assistant teacher at one of these
schools, and studying under the supervision of a teacher training institution
in that country.
Comenius Language Assistantships
Under Comenius 2, future language teachers may apply for a grant to spend
3 to 8 months as a "Comenius Language Assistant" at a host school
abroad. Such Assistants may be assigned to any institution eligible under
Comenius 1.
The assistantship has two main objectives: a) to give the assistants,
who will be future language teachers, the opportunity to enhance their
knowledge of other European languages, countries and education systems,
as well as to improve their teaching skills; and b) to improve the language
skills of the pupils at the host school and increase both their motivation
to learn languages and their interest in the assistant’s country
and culture.
A host school must designate a teacher to supervise the assistant, look
after his or her welfare, monitor the progress of the assistantship and
act as contact person throughout. Assistants receive a grant to help cover
mobility costs resulting from the assistantship. This includes travel
and a monthly contribution towards subsistence costs. The host school
does not receive any financial support to organise the assistantship,
as it will receive full benefit from the presence and the work of the
assistant.
Grants for in-service training
Grants are available to enable teachers or other categories of staff working
in the school education sector to participate in in-service training activities
(« courses ») lasting between one and four weeks in a country
other than the country in which they normally work.
For foreign language teachers, the courses take place in a country where
the target language is spoken and taught.
The training may in some cases take the form of a placement in commerce
or industry, or a public or non-governmental organisation, where this
is considered to be conducive to achieving the objectives mentioned above.
Each training activity period should involve a period of preparation and
a period of follow-up. These phases of work take place in the participant’s
home country, often using new information and communication technologies,
in particular the Internet.

OUR STUDENTS SAY ABOUT
THIS COURSE
Cara Barbara,
Domani
voglio registrare la trasmissione della corsa da RAI1. Sono due argomenti
che vorrei integrare anche nei miei corsi.
Salutami Angelo e gli altri insegnanti. E buon lavoro!
Tanti saluti,
Eva
